About.Hi. My name is John Young. I am a team and executive coach. My practice is called REDELEPHANT.
The name REDELEPHANT comes from the metaphors of “how do you eat an elephant?” and dealing with "the elephant in the room". This is the domain that I often find myself working within -seemingly intractable challenges that often have under the surface issues, which are not immediately apparent. I've honed my coaching skills through INSEAD’s Executive Master in Consulting and Coaching for Change (EMCCC), where I graduated with distinction (top 10%). EMCCC is an intensive two-year module based master programme. The programme applies a psychological perspective to leadership development, executive coaching and facilitating organisational change. The EMCCC programme requires nearly 300 hours of onsite course work, coupled with a minimum of 15 hrs per week of reading for the duration of the programme modules (18 months); 60 hours of practicum experience (3 separate practicums), the results of which are peer-reviewed and supervised by a professional psychodynamically trained coach; the completion of INSEAD's proprietary 360° feedback and leadership survey instruments, the results of which are reviewed with peers and a psychodynamically trained coach; the writing of 6 case papers, which are reviewed by peers and the programme directors; and the writing of a 12,000 word research thesis. I've led workshops on leadership, coaching and facilitating organisational change. My articles on leadership, strategy and Agile delivery have been published in INSEAD Knowledge, as well as INCOSE’s Insight magazine. I have a significant amount of experience working with executives and senior managers. My clients are primarily in the financial sector and include Deutsche Bank, where I facilitated an Agile transition over a three year period, Pantheon Ventures, Kiln and a number of early stage ventures. I mentor startups through various London based accelerators. I am a coach for Imperial College’s Imperial Ventures Mentorship Service. I have experience coaching VCs and Angel investors who have wanted to become better mentors to their portfolio companies. I am the founder of a programme for early to mid-stage entrepreneurs. |
